Future Living

Exterior View

Using the Structured Planning process, created by Professor Charles Owen, we envisioned what a self-sufficient housing system would contain that could be applied globally to meet the resource, climate, and social challenges of 2050. The resulting concept does not indicate specific technologies, but describes how potential technological features could solve the anticipated challenges of 2050. Specifically, we sought to show how a future house could accomplish food production, energy production, vertical transport, reconfiguration, assembly and disassembly, water conservation, environmental adaptation, cultural adaptation, and disaster proofing. The process is informed by secondary research, allowing us to identify specific requirements and possible technologies for building in 2050 that meet the functional requirements of the structure.

This project received a Bronze 2010 International Design Excellence Award from IDSA/IDEA
